About the Trust

Iowa’s Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund was created by Iowans in 2010. More than 60% of Iowans voted for a constitutional amendment to create the Trust Fund, establishing a permanent source of funding for clean water, outdoor recreation, and wildlife habitat. The Trust Fund requires a 3/8ths cent increase in the state sales tax to receive funding. The Trust Fund has remained empty for a decade because the state has not taken action to increase the sales tax.

Fund the Trust

We call on the Iowa State Legislature to increase the state sales tax by 3/8ths of a cent to fund the Trust and provide greatly needed funding to protect Iowa’s waters, enhance outdoor recreation opportunities, improve quality of life for Iowans, and strengthen the state’s economy.
